This section of the route starts by crossing the
Ottawa River beside the very busy Highway #20. After that, the route follows
a combination of quiet residential streets and designated cycling paths all
the way to downtown Montreal.

Community of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Turn right on to busy Route #20 which, fortunately, has a pretty good paved
shoulder. |
| 1 km |
This is the first of two crossings of the
Ottawa River and there is a dedicated cycling lane (physically separated
from the busy highway) over the bridge. Look to your right and
you will observe the Ottawa River emptying
into the St. Lawrence. |
| 2 km |
Ile Perrot,
one of the many islands in
this part of the St. Lawrence. Immediately after crossing the bridge, the
bike path (Rte.Verte 5) turns to the right. After 500 m of riding,
you will be on 5th Avenue, which becomes Grand Blvd. You now follow Grand
Blvd in an easterly direction for the next 4 km (until you reach Autoroute
A20 again). |
| 7 km |
 |
Back on A-20, you will find that
there is a dedicated bicycle path across the (second) bridge. After crossing
the river, the bike path takes a "spiral descent" (you will understand when
you are there!) into the town of
Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. |
| 8 km |
Rte.Verte 5 leaves Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue on rue St. Anne.
For the next 25 km you will follow the shoreline passing through the towns
of Baie-d'Urfé, Beaconsfield,
Pointe-Claire, Dorval and Lachine. For most of the time, you will be on
Route Verte #5. |
| 9 km |
McGill University (McDonald Campus). |
| 10 km |
You have reached the community of Baie-d'Urfé.
Here
the name of the road changes to rue Lakeshore. |
| 11 km |
Parc Fritz Farm. |
| 13 km |
You reach the community of Beaconsfield where
the name of the road changes to boulevard Beaconsfield. Rte. Verte through
Beaconsfield avoids the main street. You would be advised, therefore, to
keep your eyes peeled for the Route Verte signs. |
| 18 km |
You have reached the community of Pointe-Claire where
the name of the road changes to chemin Bord-du-Lac - Lakeshore. |
| 20 km |
Parc Baie Valois. |
| 24 km |
You have reached the community of Dorval, the home of
Montreal's principal international airport (Pierre Trudeau). |
| 26 km |
Parc Pine Beach.
 |
| 27 km |
Windsor Park.
 |
| 29 km |
Parc du Millionèere.
 |
| 30 km |
You have reached the community of Lachine,
and the
start of a dedicated bicycle path. |
| 30 km |
Parc Summerlea.
 |
| 31 km |
Parc Fort Roland.
 |
| 32 km |
Parc Saint-Louis.
 |
| 34 km |
 |
You have now reached the Piste Cyclable du
Canal Lachine, a bicycle path that follows the old Lachine Canal that
links Lac St. Louis with Montreal. It was opened in 1824, but has since
been replaced by the St. Lawrence Seaway. Simply follow this excellent
bicycle path right into the city. |
