Vaudreuil to Montreal

This section of the route starts by crossing the Ottawa River beside the very busy Highway #20. After that, the route follows a combination of quiet residential streets and designated cycling paths all the way to downtown Montreal.

km Community of Vaudreuil-Dorion. Turn left on to busy Route #20 which, fortunately, has a pretty good paved shoulder.
km This is the first of two crossings of the Ottawa River and there is a dedicated cycling lane over the bridge. Look to your right and you will observe the Ottawa River emptying into the St. Lawrence.
km Ile Perrot, one of the many islands in this part of the St. Lawrence. Immediately after crossing the first bridge you will pass to the left of a large shopping mall. Turn left on Cardinal Leger Blvd. at the lights. After riding under Route #20 and crossing the train tracks you will find yourself on Third Avenue.
km Turn right on to First Boulevard (stop sign). First Boulevard later becomes Boulevard Perrot.
km Shortly after crossing the train tracks you will reach Route #20 again (stop sign). Do not cross Route #20; instead, turn left and ride on the paved shoulder against the flow of the traffic. This is really important as the bike route over the second Ottawa River bridge is on this (north) side of the highway. After crossing the river, the bike path takes you under the highway and into the town of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.
km Leave Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue on rue St. Anne. For the next 25 km you will follow the shoreline passing through the towns of Baie-d'Urfé, Beaconsfield, Pointe-Claire, Dorval and Lachine. For about 50% of the time you will be on Route Verte #5.
km McGill University (McDonald Campus).
km You have reached the community of Baie-d'Urfé. Here the name of the road changes to rue Lakeshore.
km Parc Fritz Farm.
km You reach the community of Beaconsfield where the name of the road changes to boulevard Beaconsfield.
km You have reached the community of Pointe-Claire where the name of the road changes to chemin Lakeshore.
km Parc Baie Valois.
km You have reached the community of Dorval where the name of the road changes to chemin Bord-du-Lac. Dorval is the home of Montreal's principal international airport (Pierre Trudeau).
km Parc Pine Beach. NA00087A.gif (2177 bytes)
km Windsor Park.
km Parc du Millionèere.
km You have reached the community of Lachine and the name of the road changes back to Lakeshore Drive. This is also the start of a dedicated bicycle path.
km Parc Summerlea. NA00087A.gif (2177 bytes)
km Parc Fort Roland.
km Parc Saint-Louis.
km You have now reached the Piste Cyclable du Canal Lachine, a bicycle path that follows the old Lachine Canal that links Lac St. Louis with Montreal. It was opened in 1824, but has since been replaced by the St. Lawrence Seaway. Simply follow this excellent bicycle path right into the city.

km Old Port of Montréal.
