Naturally, you leave Chéticamp by following the
Cabot Trail in a southerly direction. The 25 km ride between Chéticamp
and Marguaree Harbour is very pleasant, and not too difficult. The Cabot
Trail remains close to the coast as it winds through a series of Acadian
fishing villages. You are in predominantly French speaking country, and
you should spot a few red, white and blue Acadian flags flying in the
wind. |

lighthouses, presenting majestic views north and south along the rugged
Cape Breton coastline. Once you cross the bridge you will come to Route
219, the Ceilidh Trail. Continue, however, along the Cabot Trail. For the
next 23 km, you will enjoy pleasant, easy cycling through the fertile
Margaree River valley. The communities along the Margaree River were
established early in the nineteenth century by pioneers from England and
later by settlers from Ireland and Scotland. |
